The response to the Vegan of the Year awards has been absolutely overwhelming. The more nominations we received, the more we began to realise just how many inspiring vegans there are worldwide working tirelessly for animals. It was an amazing and truly humbling experience!
Our sincere thanks to everyone who submitted nominations. The purpose of the awards is to recognise vegans who are making outstanding contributions in their area of expertise and to inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
Nominations have now closed and the judges are currently busy with the extremely hard task of deciding the winners. We will be running the awards annually so that every year we will be able to recognise vegan individuals, organisations and businesses who are outstanding in their fields.
We recently had a fundraising event and due to the loving support of the vegan community, we were able to raise AU$1080. This money will go to the winners of the Outstanding Animal Rescue/Animal Rights Organisation of the year. A very special thanks to all guests who attended the event. A big thanks also to the major contributors to the prize money: Loving Hut Canley Heights, Australia Vegetarian Society (NSW) and Just Green Food.
We decided to judge this category first so that the winners can start making use of the monetary prize straight away.
It is our absolute pleasure to announce the winners of this category:
Tower Hill Stables (UK)
A Place of Peace (AU)
Both organisations will receive AU$540 each.
Stay tuned for a blog post feature on both organisations. I’m sure you will be as touched by their vision and deep commitment for animals as I am. For now, here are some pics from both organisations.
The remaining category winners will be announced here on August 31st 2012.
Until then, have a vegantastic day!
